The Lasell men’s basketball had high hopes coming into the 2025- 26 campaign. The Lasers had a 21-7 record in the 2024- 25 season, which also included an appearance in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference championship.
The Lasers had a tough time replicating this success in the beginning against some tough out-of-conference matchups. The season opener was against nationally ranked Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where the Lasers fought until the end but inevitably fell short 81-69 in overtime.
After wrapping up their out-of-conference schedule, the Lasers entered conference play with a 5–8 record. The Lasers knew they were better than that record, and that it was time to start playing like it. Sophomore forward Jeffery White Jr. said that the team “stayed together and got better every day.” That’s exactly what the Lasers have done, since GNAC play started, their record has improved to 13-12.
A defining moment in that stretch came on January 31st, when the Lasers delivered a statement win against Emmanuel College. The game was tightly contested from start to finish, but the Lasers pulled away late to secure an 85–81 victory on Senior Night.
The seniors honored that evening were Daniel Edmonds, Jonathan Box, Joseph Gattuso, and Quinton Partee Jr. They have each played a major role in the program’s success during their time at Lasell. Edmonds made the most of his minutes against Emmanuel, scoring an efficient nine points in just 13 minutes of action, providing a key spark in the win. With this record, they squeezed into the playoffs and are set to play the #5-seeded Emmanuel in the GNAC playoffs. Some key players are junior guard Che Hanks, being the playmaker, along with the Madesko brothers, Andy and Esmer.
The Madeskos continue to have success, with both being top 5 in the GNAC in total steals and assists. Esmer Madesko is currently third in the GNAC with 19.8 points per game, with his season high being 34 points against Dean College in an 89-82 win on January 24th. With the Lasers sitting at 10-2 at home this season, they look well-equipped for a showdown with Emmanuel for the GNAC quarterfinals in the Athletic Center.
A special shoutout should be given to Partee Jr, who has put up a great season statistically and always brings high energy on the court. He and the Lasers look forward to going 1-0 every game to eventually end up with the GNAC championship hats on.
