On Wednesday, January 7, President Eric Turner sent out a statement to the Lasell professional community announcing that Head of Institutional Research Eric Lanthier would be assuming the position of Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management.
A member of the Lasell community since 2015, Lanthier has spent over a decade at the university in Institutional Research, serving under both former Vice President of Enrollment Management Kate O’Connor, as well as former President Michael B. Alexander and current President Eric Turner.
Throughout his time in his previous position, he assisted with major initiatives to enhance the campus, such as the reset of the cost of attendance, the transition from Lasell College to Lasell University, and the formation of Lasell Works. Having earned a bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics from Marist University and two master’s degrees in management and applied sports science analytics from Lasell University, data has played a fundamental role in Lanthier’s education and professional life.
Although he will continue his work in Institutional Research, Lanthier is looking forward to utilizing his comfort with data in his new position.
“Knowing all the data that we have available to us, I am looking forward to using the data differently than we have in the past,” Lanthier shared.
In preparation for his new role, Lanthier shared, “So I told the team, when I started, that I had four pillars and I turned them all into ‘P’s’ to have some alliteration. There would be people, process, programs, and partnership.”
With each pillar comes a different responsibility for him and the division of Enrollment Management to focus on.
For the pillar of people, the idea surrounds supporting the staff of the department and ensuring that they have the tools to enhance their work to be the best that it can, with that comes celebrating them along the way at every step.
Process is the consideration of how everything occurs within the department, with a detailed lens on the day-to-day operations.
Lanthier noted that he does not plan to overhaul the process currently, but rather examine the current procedure to see what could be added or tweaked.
Programs as a pillar magnifies the idea that the events put on by the institution are ones that are interesting and engaging to prospective students.
Additionally, he emphasized the need for the institution to relate to the greater workforce and the greater demands of students who are potentially entering the university.
Wrapping up his four pillars, partnership considers both internal and external partners. With every move that the Enrollment Management division makes, Lanthier stresses that it is important to connect with the different offices and divisions on Lasell’s campus. External partners could further advance academic or other professional standpoints, which Lanthier mentioned could be beneficial to the greater sum of the university.
When asked to share a glimpse into his daily routine, Lanthier answered, “A day-to-day for me, most of the time, is trying to talk to as many people as I can talk to. Make sure [the division] is talking the same language. It is a lot of meetings, a lot of discussions with others to make sure that we are all in the right place. It is a lot of answering questions and a lot of discussions.”
Overall, Lanthier is eager to begin this new role and continue to support Lasell in any way that he can.
“I look forward to the job, the opportunity. And to get as many achieving students as we can to this campus.”
