Growing up, I moved around quite a lot, but the place I most felt at home was Massachusetts. I spent most of my childhood here, even if it was in different parts of Massachusetts, I still felt like this was where I wanted to be. However, I moved out of Massachusetts during the COVID-19 pandemic and went to high school in Rhode Island.
Though I loved it there and made some amazing friends, like my best friend Addy, it was not the same. After I graduated from high school, there was another big move. My family moved to Virginia, where the weather is hot and sticky, but I always knew I was coming back to university in Massachusetts.
So here I am at Lasell University. With easy access to Boston, a group of friends, and a wonderful roommate. I was an annoying early planner, so I found Lasell during my sophomore year of high school and loved it, so here I am four years later.
I came to Lasell as a journalism student, but in my second semester here, I took a class called intercultural communication, and I somehow ended up switching my major to law and public affairs. This was completely out of character for me. I had spent so long wanting to be a journalist; this switch seemed insane.
As I mentioned earlier, I am a planner. I thought I had everything planned, but this class, for some reason, changed that plan drastically. My mom thought I was crazy. But to me, it made sense. I loved writing about politics and researching court cases and true crime. Mostly, it made sense because I followed my gut like I did when I made the choice to come to Lasell.
Through this change, I have learned that not having a plan or changing my plan is okay. Nothing is set in stone.
