Both Lasell University soccer teams kicked off their seasons with high energy and strong determination, setting the tone for what promises to be an exciting year. Both teams have come into the season looking to prove one point: The Lasers are going for the GNAC championship.
The women’s soccer team has been off to a heater at the beginning of the season, sitting at 5-1-2 overall and 4-0-1 in conference play. This team has some skilled players, including junior defender Destani Alua-Riox and freshman defender Brooke Bell. Both have scored goals and contributed to this team’s early success. Senior midfielder Camdyn Lamarre has been a great leader on the field, recording six points across eight games. Freshman forward Ayla Hathaway has been a jolt for the team, with 10 points in eight games.

Senior goalkeeper Elizabeth DaSilva has picked up where she left off, having been a star on the net once again. The goalie has a save percentage of .860 %, which is tied for the best in the GNAC. In one game in particular at Regis, she shut out the Pride with 6 saves. In a recent game against Colby Sawyer, the Lasers beat the Chargers 2-0.
With talent across the field, women’s soccer looks forward to a hopeful season with the goal of lifting the GNAC Cup.
Senior captain Renea Duran said, “It’s early, but I am feeling confident about the playoffs and the GNAC.”
The men’s soccer team has also had a good start to its season. It is 3-5-2, 3-2-1 at home. The men’s team has had its ups and downs, but the passion is most definitely there. In its game against Elms on Sept. 13, it tied 5-5. It was a jaw-dropping comeback with Antonio Calabrese and Daniel Faynstein leading the way, with the players having two goals each.
On Saturday, the Lasers played Norwich and came away with a 1-1 tie. The lone score for the home team was a great goal by junior forward Owen O’Brein, which featured a fantastic through ball from Dante Mills, who has had a sneaky good season with 5 points in 10 games. Leading the team with 13 points is graduate forward Daniel Faynstein, and O’Brien with 10. The men’s soccer team is looking forward to seven of its eiight remaining games being GNAC opponents, a chance to gain serious momentum. If they can keep building, a Cinderella run to the GNAC is possible.
