Crisp air, turning leaves, cravings for pumpkin spice, and the best part of fall: the outfits!
Although this year has brought us a mix of emotions, the central theme in fashion for the season will be balance.
This year, designers worldwide have decided to push toward innovation and expression to prevent fall styles from feeling flat, incorporating some familiar (or not-so-familiar) styles that we most likely already have in our closets. Mixing structure and comfort, neutrals and bold colors, even tradition with modernity, nothing is too playful a detail for your special look.
So don’t be scared to start dusting off your preppy items, oversized or tailored blazers and pants, classic cozy knits, your favorite leather pieces, and even boho or romantic cuties, like crochet accessories or fringy accents, to add texture, since they’re all back.
We can expect a resurgence of nostalgic aesthetics, such as dark academia or dark romance, as a result of this. Giving us a hint that there’s a desire for contrast, since these styles carry strong forms and dark hues.
I highly recommend you, no matter where you want to take your style, to mix the usual warm neutral tones, and deep hue colors like wine/deep burgundy tones or chocolate brown, with a good old pop of unexpected and rich color to give a cool accent; for this you can use your favorite baby colors, or Google electric/extreme blues, fern green, and a personal favorite: not-quite-brat green.
Diving deep into being visually interesting, but still on the border of the safe and known styles, feel free to incorporate your favorite animal print; it can be leopard, zebra, or snakeskin, etc. Additionally, we are pleased to announce that these prints are being promoted from “loud” to neutral building-block pieces, making them easier to incorporate into your outfit and even serving as the base of your look if you prefer it. And, of course, plaid can also make a comeback to the table to play.
Feel free to wear your elevated athletic wear with your favorite chunky or vintage sneakers for a touch of comfort on site.
When preparing your outfits, you can rely on creating bold silhouettes or oversized shapes to give the balance we’re looking for, complementing the layering and tones. We’re also seeing an enormous appeal to “hourglass” silhouettes, which can be easily achieved with a nice belt over your clothes or outerwear.
Accessorizing and shoewear will be a blast with the diverse options available this season, making it an opportunity to showcase those ballerina sneakers, boots with cool details, and more.
Remember, layering smartly is always a friend in these upcoming seasons. Try experimenting with lengths and textures across layers to help you pull off this new style approach if you haven’t tried it yet.
If you don’t even know where to start, approach the closest fashion student you can spot and make their day by asking them to style you and take you to Lasell Thrift, where you’ll find EVERYTHING we just talked about!
