The men’s soccer team has entered its spring season with no coach once again. As the team attempts to utilize the spring season to develop prior to the next academic year, they are now faced with the challenge of an adjustment.
On March 18, Luis Cabral was relieved of his duties as head coach of the men’s soccer program.
As the team enters its spring season, which serves as a crucial stretch focused on conditioning, development, and setting the tone before summer break, the players now find themselves preparing without a permanent leader. While training continues, the program awaits news on who will take over and guide the team into its next chapter.
Five months since their season ended, Dan Augustine and Owen O’Brien, rising seniors and returning captains for the 2026-2027 season, are committed to maintaining a positive and inclusive environment that produces good morale for their team.

Augustine shared how the men’s soccer team supports one another and has built a sense of community throughout the years.
“We as a team have been big about our culture and our sense of community, straying away from individual little groups that make up a team, and leaning toward being one whole family.”
Both students are looking forward to the opportunity to work with a new individual to build off their experience on the team. They hope that whoever takes over as head coach holds the same qualities that they have adopted as captains.
“A coach who makes rules and both abides by them while enforcing them is a consistent strength. Maintaining and applying the same standard to every individual and ensuring that no one is an exception builds structure and stability,” O’Brien said.
As of now, the team is relying heavily on interim head coach Rueben Paice, who served as assistant coach in the previous season.
“He’s stepped up, and he’s let us know that regardless of the position we are currently in as a team, it does not change anything; our goals are still the same going into next year,” O’Brien shared.
Focusing on the next year, both captains agreed on their goals for the program and hope that they are ones that they can enjoy with the greater Lasell community.
“One of our main goals is to reach the postseason again and to be able to host a home playoff game on Taylor Field. This is something that has not been done in probably over a decade, and we believe with hard work we can achieve this,” Augustine stated.
With the spring conditioning season wrapping up with the semester, a new head coach is expected to be announced at some point in the summer by the athletics department.
Regardless, men’s soccer is focused on its goals and taking the necessary steps toward them. With dedication, the players look forward to what the summer will bring for the team.
