Lasell University’s softball team has begun its season in swinging fashion. From a start during spring break in sunny Florida to a recent home double-header against Albertus Magnus, the team has been busy during their first month of the 2026 season.
This year marks the second season of Vani Patel’s tenure as Head Coach. Alongside her are Assistant Coaches Jen Biagiotti and Hannah DelCarvo.
The team is captained by three seniors, these being pitcher Abby Fortin, second-baseman Kelsey Gallagher, and catcher Alyssa Bland. The trio is excited for the season they still have ahead of them.
Gallagher shared, “I think as a whole we are a more adaptable team. Since we have such a limited and younger roster, there is a lot of flexibility to move people around and develop the young players in different positions/situations.”
Although the team has a conference record of 1-5 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) and an overall record of 5-11, Bland expressed how the team is persevering through the season.
“I want the campus to know that we are fighting for everything this season and will not go down easily,” Bland stated.
Fortin echoed Bland when asked about success in relation to the team.
“It looks like a lot of different things for this team. We are improving with every game. Just knowing that we went out there, had fun, and gave it our all is how we see our success,” Fortin stated.
All three captains expressed that, as seniors, it is a special season for them as they watch their teammates grow and achieve their own goals on and off the field. They look forward to what the rest of the season holds for their team and heavily encourage students and supporters of the Lasell community to attend their games.
“Come support Lasell University softball! Our season is looking promising. Please show up and show out,” Gallagher shared.
