Lasell held its second annual on-campus Flea Market on Wednesday, November 19, in DeWitt Hall.
The event was led by senior Evelyn DiFiore. DiFiore is a fashion design major and stated that the Flea Market focused on “Thinking sustainably in terms of shopping, fashion, and supporting young artists, like those selling pins that they make and art or jewelry.”
The Flea Market had a wide variety of goods, apart from just clothes.

DiFiore explained that the Flea Market “Gives students a really good start to a small business,” with an emphasis on young designers that students on campus can support. DiFiore continued in her statement, also emphasizing ‘an overproduction of clothing and goods,’ and she believes “We should start looking within and stop shopping from outside sources,” DiFiore said.
Vendors were able to apply through a QR code sent out by DiFiore earlier this year. DiFiore elaborated, “We typically have 18 vendors per market; this year we have nine.” This was DiFiore’s first time running a Flea Market here at Lasell. She states, “I’m hoping that with this being my first time, I’ll have a little bit more knowledge with me next semester to be able to plot out better.” All purchases made go solely back to the vendor, hence why DiFiore believes that the Flea Market is just the right place for students to get their small business off the ground.
DiFiore has a genuine love for clothes and all things second-hand. She states, “I’ve always loved clothes. I think around 10 years ago, I started thrifting and going to Flea Markets and whatnot. I’ve always loved the idea of focusing on second-hand; it’s super important.”
When asked about her role here at Lasell, DiFiore answered, “I think my role here is to carry on the importance of sustainability and teaching others not to overconsume, it’s ruining our earth.” DiFiore hopes this annual event will continue for years to come.
