Confetti illuminated Lasell’s Athletic Center on Nov. 15 as the Lasers’ women’s volleyball team hoisted its third Great Northeast Athletic Conference Commissioner’s Cup in as many years. The team defeated Regis, 3-1 (25-23, 25-12, 16-25, 25-19), for its second win in the GNAC title game over the school from Weston in three years.
With the win, Lasell (25-3) returns to the NCAA Division 3 tournament, and a match against Kean (29-5) on Thursday, Nov. 20, at Tufts. The match will start at 4:30 p.m., and will be livestreamed by the NCAA.
Senior setter Sydney Katz feels ready for the contest.

“I’m feeling so excited and grateful to be able to have this opportunity to win the GNAC and compete in the NCAA’s for the third year in a row,” she said. “We are feeling prepared for this upcoming game and ready to make more Lasell history for as long as we can.”
There are 64 teams in the NCAA Division 3 tournament, spread among eight regional sites. The winner of Lasell-Kean will play the winner of Tufts-Bridgewater State on Friday, with a time TBA. Winners of Friday’s games will meet in the Sweet 16 games Saturday. The championship rounds will be held Dec. 3-6 at Illinois Wesleyan in Bloomington, Ill.
What other teams would consider a miracle has now become the expectation at Lasell. The Lasers have only lost 14 games in the last three years. Lasell hadn’t dropped a single set since Oct. 25 until Regis stopped the run at 25 straight.
Senior Madeline Caro, who was recently named the GNAC libero of the year, has been a huge part of the team’s success in the last three years.
“I’m feeling very accomplished,,” she said. “Looking back at where we were just a couple of years ago as a young team, we have been seeing all of the very hard work paying off, and we’re not looking to stop the progress any time soon.”
